How Long Does It Take to Clean a Gas Grill?

You love cooking on your grill, but you dread cleaning it. So many parts, a lot of grease and burnt food debris. How long exactly will it take to clean this thing? Luckily, it should take no longer than 30 minutes.

Follow these seven easy steps to clean your grill. Your food will taste better, your grill will function more efficiently, and your barbecues will be safer.

Before getting started, make sure that you have all tools and supplies handy. To clean your grill, you’ll need:

  • Gloves
  • A quality grill brush, preferably with a scraper
  • Rags, sponges, or paper towels,
  • A bucket of soap and water

Seven Steps to a Clean Grill

  1. Scrub the grates with a quality grill brush. Remove from the rack and wash them in soapy water. Rinse and dry before putting them back.
  2. Scrape the heat tents with the scraper blade on your brush and remove any food particles and grease. Simply lift them from inside the grill, dunk them in the bucket of soapy water and wash. Rinse them and set aside until you are done.
  3. Clean and unclog burners. Some burners are easily removed and can be scrubbed in soapy water. Use a thin skewer or paper clip to unclog the ports in the burners if necessary.
  4. Remove the gunk from the bottom. Scrape off the debris with your grill brush. You may need a grill cleaner to eliminate stubborn grease.
  5. Consult your owner’s manual to ensure you reassemble your grill properly.
  6. Clean the exterior of the grill. You can use soapy water, but try a specialized cleaner for stainless steel to make it shine.
  7. Inspect the grill’s components to make sure everything is working properly. This includes the ignition wires, battery and hose. A gas leak test is a good idea if your grill has been unused for a long period of time.
