Innovating Since Day One

In 1948, Char-Broil brought the first ever charcoal grill to market. The first gas grill was our next innovation in 1966. We then kept up the innovation in 1977, proudly bringing the first portable gas grill.

In the years since we’ve introduced innovations that are now standard among modern grills. And with innovations like our patented TRU®-Infrared™ Cooking System, the evolution continues today. So while we can’t take credit for the cookout, we’ve been making cookouts better for decades.

America’s Number One Gas Barbecue Brand

For decades, we’ve been innovating to make grilling easier, affordable, and more memorable. Last year was no exception, once again Char-Broil sold more full-size gas grills in the U.S. than any other brand. (Source: TraQline 2017 – between March 2016 and March 2017). As a result, Char-Broil is currently in more American homes than any other gas barbecue brand.

The Original Charcoal Grill

In 1948, we gave America one of its first charcoal grills. While outdoor cooking was unheard of at the time, the leisure that came with it quickly turned grilling into a backyard tradition. From that moment forward, Char-Broil® continued to set the standards with even more firsts, including portable grilling, electric grilling and the gas grill with electric ignition.

"World’s Best BBQ Grill"

In 1984, while our noses were pressed firmly to the grilling grindstone, Char-Broil’s CB940 was recognized as the World’s Best BBQ Grill by the Book of Bests. Our collective efforts produced a grill that was perfect in the eyes of the world. It was an achievement that encouraged us to look for even more ways to make the grilling experience better.

We can’t say it enough: performance means everything. Whether you only grill occasionally or you’re igniting those burners every other day, your grill needs to cook the way you expect it to. It’s for this reason that performance drives every feature, every innovation, every new product we introduce. We introduced the Big Easy for one reason: to deliver the deliciousness you expect from a turkey fryer without the mess or cost that comes with a bubbling pot of oil. Done and done. After all, convenience drives every innovation we introduce. With the success of the Big Easy, we were hungry for an even bigger breakthrough.
