How to Grill Avocados

  1. Select Your Avocado
With avocados ripening in 4 to 7 days at room temperature, it is best to buy them a few days before you plan on grilling. Avocados are ripe when they yield to a gentle squeeze, but are not too soft or mushy.
  2. Prepare Your Avocado
Begin by cutting your avocados lengthwise. Twist halves in opposite directions to separate. To remove the pit, use a spoon or sharp knife. If using a knife, take caution. Thwack the pit of the avocado with your knife and twist to remove.
  3. Preheat Your Grill
Preheat your grill to medium-high at 500°F.
  4. Grill Your Avocado
Before placing the avocados on the grill, brush avocado halves with olive oil. Place the avocados on the grill, cut or flesh side down. Grill for 2 or 3 minutes. The avocados should be firm, but slightly softer than prior to grilling.
HOT TIP – Since the flesh of the avocado is delicate and may crumble, don’t remove the skin before grilling.
